Spring in New Mexico has a funny way of sneaking up on you. One day it’s chilly, and the next thing you know weeds are popping up like they own the place.
Last week we talked about windows and screens. This week’s Fix-It Friday takes us outside for a few simple things you can do now to get your yard ready before the growing season really kicks in.
And while we’re talking about weeds, we should give a quick shout-out to last week’s Employee of the Week here at Rio Rancho Hardware…
Spruce Weed & Grass Killer.
Yes, the one with the googly eyes on the shelf.
🌱 Start With a Quick Yard Reset
Before worrying about weeds, it helps to do a quick clean-up around the yard.
Take a few minutes to:
Rake out dead leaves and debris
Clear weeds from cracks in patios and walkways
Check garden beds for early growth
This makes it easier to see where weeds are starting to move in.
🌿 Catch Weeds Early
Early weeds are much easier to deal with than the jungle they can become a few weeks from now.
For gravel areas, walkways, patios, and along landscape edges, aspot treatment nowcan save you a lot of work later.
That’s whereSprucecomes in.
Spruce uses plant-based oils to burn down weeds quickly without lingering chemicals in the soil, which makes it a popular option for folks looking for a more natural approach to weed control.
In other words…it’s tough on weeds but a little easier on the environment.
🧴 How to Use Spruce
Spruce works best when applied directly to the weeds you want gone.
A few quick tips:
Spray on a warm, dry day
Coat the leaves thoroughly
Younger weeds respond the fastest
You’ll usually see results pretty quickly which is always satisfying.
🌼 Stay Ahead of the Season
The biggest secret to yard care isn’t fancy tools.
It’s simplystaying ahead of the problem.
A little cleanup now, a little weed control early, and your yard will be much easier to maintain once spring really arrives.
🛠 Final Thought
If you were in the store last week, you may have noticed Spruce Weed Killer keeping an eye on the aisle with its googly eyes as our Employee of the Week.
It put in some solid work helping folks stay ahead of the weeds.
And if you need help figuring out what to use in your yard whether it’s weed control, soil, tools, or garden supplies stop by Rio Rancho Hardware. We’re always happy to help you tackle the next project.
See you next Friday for another Fix-It Friday.
