Why We Do This

July 25, 2025

Because we believe every person deserves to feel capable, even if they've never picked up a wrench before. George grew up in the store, learned from his dad, and now shares what he knows — one project at a time.

No pressure. Just practical help, a little humor, and the kind of advice you'd get from a neighbor who’s been there.

The Post-Holiday Clean-Up Survival Guide

The decorations are coming down, the boxes are piling up, and suddenly your house feels like it hosted the holidays a little too hard. Sound familiar?

The good news? The post-holiday clean-up doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With a little strategy (and the right supplies), you can reset your home, reclaim your space, and start the new year feeling refreshed instead of buried.

Welcome to this week’s Fix-It Friday.

Step 1: Break It into Zones

Don’t try to clean the whole house in one go — that’s how projects get abandoned halfway through.

Pick one zone at a time:

  • Living room

  • Kitchen

  • Garage

  • Entryway

  • Storage closets

Finish one area before moving on. Small wins add up fast.

Step 2: Deal with the Holiday Gear First

Holiday décor has a way of lingering longer than intended.

  • Take lights down carefully (future you will appreciate it)

  • Coil cords neatly

  • Separate indoor and outdoor décor

Storing everything together — instead of scattered across three closets — makes next yearmucheasier.

Step 3: Contain the Chaos

Good storage is the real hero of post-holiday clean-up.

Clear, sturdy totes make it easy to see what’s inside and protect decorations from dust and damage. Label them now, and you won’t be guessing next December.

This is also a great time to corral gift packaging, wrapping supplies, and batteries so they’re ready when you need them again.

Step 4: Clean Smarter, Not Harder

After weeks of extra foot traffic, cooking, and guests, your home deserves a refresh.

  • Sweep and vacuum high-traffic areas

  • Wipe down surfaces that get ignored during busy weeks

  • Swap out trash bags, filters, and cleaning cloths

A little elbow grease now goes a long way toward making your space feel calm again.

Step 5: Reclaim Your Garage & Entryway

If boxes, bags, and random “I’ll deal with this later” items have taken over your garage or entryway, now’s the time.

Hooks, shelves, and totes help get things off the floor and back where they belong. Once those areas are clear, everything else feels easier.

A Fresh Start Feels Better

The holidays are meant to be enjoyed — not followed by weeks of clutter stress. A thoughtful clean-up helps you start the year with less mess, more space, and a clear head.
