Why We Do This

July 25, 2025

Because we believe every person deserves to feel capable, even if they've never picked up a wrench before. George grew up in the store, learned from his dad, and now shares what he knows — one project at a time.

No pressure. Just practical help, a little humor, and the kind of advice you'd get from a neighbor who’s been there.

Quick Fixes Before the Holiday Rush

Quick Fixes Before the Holiday Rush

November 20, 20252 min read

You know that feeling when guests are due any minute and suddenly you notice everything that needs fixing? The wobbly towel bar, the squeaky door, that one lightbulb that’s been out since spring… yeah, it’s that time again!

Before the holidays hit full swing, take a few minutes (or an afternoon) for some easy fixes that make your home feel ready for company — and way less stressful.

Step 1: Patch It, Paint It, Perfect It

Even small touch-ups make a big difference. Grab a quart or gallon of Clark+Kensington paint and cover up scuffs, scratches, and “test spots” that have been waiting their turn since last year. A quick roller pass and your walls look freshly painted.

Need to fill a nail hole? A dab of DAP spackling and a light sand can work miracles — and fast.

Step 2: Fix the Fixtures

Loose cabinet handles, squeaky hinges, or that mystery drawer that refuses to glide — now’s the time to tighten, oil, or replace. We’ve got Craftsman, DeWalt, and Milwaukee screwdrivers, drill bits, and combo kits that make these small projects a breeze.

Pro tip: Build yourself a small “holiday emergency kit” with a screwdriver, hammer, tape measure, painter’s tape, and extra screws. When décor starts going up, you’ll be glad you did.

Step 3: Light the Way

Nothing says “holiday cheer” like bright, functional lighting. Replace older bulbs with new Feit Electric LEDs for clean, warm light throughout your home.

Getting ready to decorate? Pick up Parrot Clips, Command hooks, and fresh extension cords to hang lights safely and securely — with no tangled messes or broken shingles.

Step 4: Declutter and Impress

A tidy home always feels more inviting. Use Rubbermaid totes to stash away out-of-season items, kids’ projects, or that mystery pile that’s been growing since summertime. While you’re at it, make sure remotes have fresh batteries and smoke detectors are good to go.

Step 5: Breathe Easy and Enjoy

You’ve done the work — now light a candle, kick back, and enjoy your refreshed space. Whether you’re hosting a crowd or just want your home holiday-ready, these quick fixes make a world of difference.

Swing by Rio Rancho Hardware for the tools, bulbs, hooks, cords, and touch-up supplies you need to check those projects off your list. We’ll help you find what you need — and probably share a laugh about our own pre-holiday to-do lists!
